Background

The MEAs Project housed at the DREA is EC-funded and was endorsed by AMCEN in 2003. The main objectives of the MEAs Project is to strengthen and enhance the capacity of AfricanACP countries, the African Union Commission and the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) to effectively implement or coordinate implementation of MEAs thereby contributing to sustainable development and poverty reduction.The 48 African ACP countries involved are Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo-Brazzaville, Congo-Kinshasa, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, São Tomé and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
